Forward progress in the FAIR deployment of COVID-19 datasets

Support from EOSC-Life helped turn the FAIR deployment of COVID-19 datasets from a wish into reality!

Researchers around the world are striving to identify repurposed drugs that can be used as possible therapies against the SARS-CoV-2 infection and the associated COVID-19 disease.

A recently issued paper describes how a phenotypic screening campaign successfully led to the identification of 18 compounds with a safety index greater than 2 that are also marketed drugs. These have now been targeted for further study as potential therapies against COVID-19, demonstrating the usefulness of this systematic approach!

The FAIRification of the COVID-19 data for community use in this work was supported by funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme of EOSC-LIFE.

Congratulations to our partners at Fraunhofer-IME for this contribution to science!
