The Open Life Science proposal to develop training opportunities for the EOSC-Life community was granted in late 2020 as part of 1st EOSC-Life Training Open Call.
At the time, the RIs involved, ELIXIR and Open Life Science, did not know how much of a difference this EOSC-Life funding would make!

Yo Yehudi, OLS representative, remarked that the funding from EOSC-Life made an incredible difference in the training programme. Before funding was available, mentors could only be involved on a volunteer basis, and the EOSC-Life funding gave OLS the chance to involve (more) hosts and mentors more deeply and effectively.
She also noted that being able to financially compensate mentors for their time had long-lasting effects in their personal lives as well. One of the nicest stories shared was that a mentor living in Africa was able to send his sister to school as a result of his mentoring side job!
EOSC-Life provided the kick-start for this training programme, but OLS is still alive and going strong.
